Another article was published in the New Yorker earlier today by George Packer, who has written several other pieces on the visa crises in Iraq and Syria. This particular piece deals with the State Department’s shortcomings in helping our Iraqi allies, especially those who face persecution stemming from their work with the Americans and from ISIS’ contempt for persons who do not adhere to Sunni Islam. The article follows “Karim,” a Yazidi Kurd who worked with the U.S. military, and explains the Special Immigrant Visa backlog from a very personal standpoint. IRAP wishes Karim and the thousands of people in similar situations the best of luck in staying safe and in eventually completing the SIV application process.
