IRAP was featured in an article published yesterday by Men’s Journal that discusses the Special Immigrant Visa program and the need to help our Afghan and Iraqi allies obtain Special Immigrant Visas to the United States. The article tells the story of the relationships of several American soldiers and their local interpreters, who on many occasions used their knowledge of the local culture and terrain to save their American counterparts’ lives. Some interpreters have even taken up arms against the Taliban to save their American friends.
IRAP’s Becca Heller and Katie Reisner provided quotes for the story. It’s an excellent read that goes into great detail to explain the relationships between US soldiers and their interpreters, as well as the danger faced by those workers who remain in Afghanistan and Iraq after their assignments are completed.
