IRAP Featured on Humans of New York Blog

This afternoon, our entire New York team met with Brandon Stanton, founder of the famous Humans of New York blog. Humans of New York (HONY), as many of you know, is a project documenting the everyday lives of New Yorkers. Recently, however, Brandon expanded his scope by traveling to the Middle East to learn about and share the experiences of refugees fleeing their homes.

One of the stories that Brandon featured was that of a particularly vulnerable young Iraqi woman in Turkey named Aya. Aya’s application to resettle in the United States was initially approved, but later rejected for unspecified “security related reasons.” We are honored to announce today that IRAP will take Aya’s case and represent her in her appeal. We are grateful both to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) for bringing the case to our attention, and to Humans of New York for spotlighting the injustice of the case for hundreds of thousands of people. So many men, women, and children face situations just like Aya’s, and it is essential that we get the word out about their plight.
