IRAP CONDEMNS TRUMP’S LATEST ATTEMPT TO SEPARATE U.S. FAMILIES FROM THEIR LOVED ONES
(New York, NY) – Yesterday, the Trump Administration announced yet another unilateral proclamation targeting immigrants, the effects of which will devastate thousands of American families. The order would prevent certain family members of U.S. citizens and permanent residents from entering the United States to obtain green cards or other immigrant visas for at least 60 days.
In response to the Proclamation, the International Refugee Assistance Project (IRAP) issued the following statement by IRAP’s Deputy Executive Director, Nisha Agarwal:
“The ongoing pandemic has had devastating impacts on communities all over the world. This proclamation will not bring any relief to the families who are mourning loved ones or facing economic hardship. On the contrary, the order will create more suffering among American families, who will be unable to reunite with loved ones, and harm first responders, many of whom are immigrants. By effectively suspending entry under the diversity visa program, the order also targets an important aspect of the social and cultural fabric of our nation. This proclamation is nothing but another xenophobic distraction from the real problems Americans are facing.”
