This week, Al Jazeera English aired an important segment about the Afghan Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) program on its show The Stream. The episode featured commentary from IRAP’s Policy Director, Betsy Fisher, as well as a discussion with representatives from IRAP’s peer organization, No One Left Behind.
“We represent hundreds of Afghan translators. There’s been a lot of discussion about delays at the security checks stage, but there are also delays and mistakes at the initial application stage,” explained Fisher. “We see applicants be delayed for months because the government requests documents that they’ve already submitted, and we’ve seen people be rejected because the government is unable to locate their own contracts. These people are in danger and they deserve accurate and efficient outcomes.”
