Yesterday, a group of senators, led by Sen. Patrick Leahy, petitioned the Department of Homeland Security to release further information on the delays in processing for Special Immigrant Visas (SIV) given to Iraqis whose integral assistance to the U.S. government put them in danger.
The letter stressed that, out of a possible 25,000, only 3,151 SIVs have been awarded to Iraqis since the program was implemented in 2008.
Co-signors to this letter include Senators Richard Lugar, Carl Levin, John Kerry, Dick Durbin, Benjamin Cardin and Kristen Gillibrand.
